Tell us a bit about yourself?

I was born, raised and educated in Glasgow. After studying psychology at university, I realised I wasn’t going to spend my life clad in tweed! I’d always been interested in writing and coming from a journalism household – the move into reporting seemed like a natural one.

I’ve been lucky enough to work for some of the biggest media outlets in the country and have interviewed a heap of people covering subjects as wide as breaking news, politics and sport to the arts, music, film and pretty much everything else. I even covered a radioactive waste conference once which only happens every four years! The world cup of radioactive waste even.
Outside of writing and work I enjoy sport, history and music. I’m also a regular for the Scotland Writers FC, playing against charity teams and other scribes from around the world.
How did you get into writing?

I’ve been writing stories since I could pretty much write. I started seriously writing longer novellas and novels when I was around 17 and continued through my university career. I love writing, both fiction and non-fiction, and I’m grateful that I can do it professionally.
What types of books and films have inspired you?

I’m a big fan of almost any and all genres of writing. When I was younger I read a lot of science-fiction and fantasy and now I’m a little older I enjoy historical fiction and literary fiction. Humour wise I’ve always been inspired by the likes of Armando Ianucci, Mike Judge and John Swartzwelder.

Tell us about your debut novel, Morbid Relations?

Morbid Relations is a darkly comic novel about coping with a death in the family and growing up. I’ve always been fascinated with the gallows humour that often surrounds tragedy, particularly for us Scots. Having the chance to explore these themes was fantastic and it’s something I’d like to continue in my career.

Morbid Relations is available for purchase from Ringwood Publishing or Amazon.com
